The VALS-ASLA Conference 2027 will be hosted by the University of Teacher Education of the Grisons. The theme of the conference is “Engaging with language – attitudes towards language(s) in society, family and school”. With this theme, the conference aims to explore the significant role that attitudes towards languages play in various aspects of our daily lives and social interactions from a range of different perspectives.

The conference will begin on 28 January 2027 at around 10.15 am and will end on 29 January 2027 at around 5.00 pm. Further details and the schedule will follow.
Ruth Kircher is a Senior Researcher at the European Centre for Minority Issues (ECMI) in Flensburg. She is also an affiliated Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Concordia University in Montreal, and an affiliated member of the Canadian Centre for Studies and Research on Bilingualism and Language Planning (CCERBAL) at the University of Ottawa. As a sociolinguist with a specialisation in multilingualism and minority languages, her work focuses on three interrelated strands: (1) language attitudes and ideologies, (2) language policy and planning at the societal level, as well as (3) family language policy and intergenerational language transmission. Her research comprises a range of contexts in North America and Europe. She has authored numerous journal articles, book chapters, and research reports, and she is co-editor of the book Research Methods in Language Attitudes (CUP 2022).
Tillmann Pistor is an Advanced Postdoc in German Sociolinguistics at the University of Bern. His research focuses on the intersection of phonetics, linguistic geography and sociolinguistic variation, with a particular emphasis on sociophonetics. His work focuses on how regional language features function as social markers and what role they play in shaping and negotiating language attitudes and identities. Tillmann currently leads the research group in the SNF project ‘Sound Effects’, which investigates how social meaning emerges from phonetic variation in the DACH region. He is an expert in prosody and is also involved in various projects addressing questions of linguistic justice in multilingual regions and the visibility of gender diversity in references to people in public spaces.

Conference fees: 40 CHF; includes coffee breaks and two lunches.

Im Zentrum der Professur steht die Forschung zur italienischen Sprache und zur Fachdidaktik von Italienisch als Schul- und Fremdsprache. Der Fokus liegt auf den Italienischunterricht im mehrsprachigen Kontext Graubündens und der Schweiz. Aktuelle Projekte beschäftigen sich mit der Rolle des Italienischen als Minderheitensprache in Graubünden, sowohl in der Schule als auch in der Gesellschaft. Die Professur widmet sich ausserdem der Entwicklung von Lehrmitteln für das Fach Italienisch als Schul- und Fremdsprache auf Primar- und Sekundarstufe I.
mehr InformationenDie Professur für Rätoromanisch und Rätoromanischdidaktik ist in den Fachbereichen Erziehungswissenschaft/Bildungsforschung und Angewandte Linguistik angesiedelt. Sie bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle zwischen allgemeiner Didaktik, fachdidaktischer Forschung und angewandter rätoromanischer Sozio- und Bildungslinguistik. Der Schwerpunkt der Professur liegt (derzeit) in der Entwicklung und Erforschung rätoromanischer Lehrmittel.
